Wooden Rocking Pony Project!

Matt decided he wanted to make a rocking horse for Levi's birthday, and tackled the project with great results! After lots of online searches, he found some free plans for a wooden rocking pony to use. 

(NOTE: Following is a VERY brief overview of his wife's view of how it came together, but if you want more details, you can visit this link or talk to Matt and he would be happy to share with you!)

Step 1: Purchase wood and supplies. The plans called for three different types of wood (for different colors), but he ended up getting all oak and then later stained the parts that were supposed to be different colors. 

Step 2: Glue the patterns onto the boards and cut them out. 

Step 2.5: Put it together to preview how it is going to look! :) Then take it back apart.

Step 3: Lots and lots of sanding! Along with gluing, routering, and preparing some other details such as plugs and eyes. Sanding was the most dreadful and time-consuming task, but he finally got it done!

Step 3.5: Put it mostly together temporarily for Levi to try it out and watch him LOVE it!! Then take it apart again. 

Step 4: Do a final sanding, stain the saddle, mane, tail, and rocker and put it all together! 

Step 4.5: Have Levi test it out again before it goes to get varnished. 

Step 5: Bring it to the shop for a couple coats of varnish to make it look beautiful. 

Step 6: Bring it home, attach the horse to the rocker, and wrap it up for the birthday boy.

Step 7: Enjoy!
